Gingham \Ging"ham\, n. [F. guingan; cf. Jav. ginggang; or perh.
   fr. Guingamp, in France.]
   A kind of cotton or linen cloth, usually in stripes or
   checks, the yarn of which is dyed before it is woven; --
   distinguished from printed cotton or prints.
