Glauconite \Glau"co*nite\, n. [Cf. F. glauconite, glauconie, fr.
   L. glaucus. See Glaucous.] (Min.)
   The green mineral characteristic of the greensand of the
   chalk and other formations. It is a hydrous silicate of iron
   and potash. See Greensand.
