Glyptodon \Glyp"to*don\, n. [Gr. ? carved, engraved + ?, ?,
   tooth. See Glyph.] (Paleon.)
   An extinct South American quaternary mammal, allied to the
   armadillos. It was as large as an ox, was covered with
   tessellated scales, and had fluted teeth. --Owen.
