Oxalis \Ox"a*lis\, n. [L., a kind of sorrel, Gr. 'oxali`s, fr.
   'oxy`s sharp, pungent, acid.] (Bot.)
   A genus of plants, mostly herbs, with acid-tasting
   trifoliolate or multifoliolate leaves; -- called also {wood
   sorrel}.
