Fess \Fess\, Fesse \Fesse\, n. [OF. fesse, faisse, F. fasce, fr.
   L. fascia band. See Fascia.] (Her.)
   A band drawn horizontally across the center of an escutcheon,
   and containing in breadth the third part of it; one of the
   nine honorable ordinaries.
