Gaultheria \Gaul*the"ri*a\, n. [NL.] (Bot.)
   A genus of ericaceous shrubs with evergreen foliage, and,
   often, edible berries. It includes the American winter-green
   (Gaultheria procumbens), and the larger-fruited salal of
   Northwestern America (Gaultheria Shallon).
