Hibernaculum \Hi`ber*nac"u*lum\, n. [See Hibernacle.]
   1. (Bot.) A winter bud, in which the rudimentary foliage or
      flower, as of most trees and shrubs in the temperate zone,
      is protected by closely overlapping scales.
