Socle \So"cle\, n. [F., fr. L. socculus, dim. of soccus. See
   Sock a covering for the foot. Cf. Zocco.] (Arch.)
   (a) A plain block or plinth forming a low pedestal; any base;
       especially, the base of a statue, column, or the like.
