[Icel. valh["o]ll, literally, hall of the slain; valr the slain (akin to AS. w[ae]l, OHG. wal battlefield, wuol defeat, slaughter, AS. w[=o]l pestilence) + h["o]ll a royal hall. See Hall, and cf.
