Cittern \Cit"tern\, n. [L.cithara, Gr. kiqa`ra. Cf. Cithara,
   Gittern.] (Mus.)
   An instrument shaped like a lute, but strung with wire and
   played with a quill or plectrum. [Written also cithern.]
