Zikkurat \Zik"ku*rat\, n. A temple tower of the Babylonians or Assyrians, consisting of a lofty pyramidal structure, built in successive stages, with outside staircases, and a shrine at the top; -- called also ziggurat. [Webster 1913 Suppl.] .
